Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated Environmental Waste Manager to ensure compliance of waste services and functions across NHS Health buildings maintained by CHoICE Facilities Services. The role will require the post holder to undertake the role of Waste Responsible Person in line with Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 07-01, Safe management of healthcare waste to meet its statutory, mandatory and best practice commitments to its existing partners.
As part of the role, the post holder will be required to be flexible and have a wide ranging knowledge of waste, compliance, services and functions. The role will also require the flexible working between multiple sites, based at South Tyneside Hospital. The role is based on 40 hours per week operating between 8-6 Monday to Friday. The role will also require the use of your own vehicle and may require an element of overtime working from time to time when the service needs dictate, for which appropriate payments will be made. Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to provide technical advice, guidance and where necessary supervision to other CFS staff, contractors and Trust colleagues alike.
The successful applicant will need to have a detailed knowledge of healthcare waste compliance and should understand the requirements of the various NHS regulatory regimes, including environment and hazardous waste, controlled drugs, infection control, H&S and transport. This includes resolving day-to-day contract issues, annual registration and contract management. Successful applicants will need to ensure Choice and subsequently the Trust, implements and maintains HTM 07.01 compliance and compliance with current legislation and codes of practice and ensures safe management of healthcare waste systems within the organisation and that the waste management policy is annually reviewed.
The role is also to provide leadership, specialist advice and guidance in relation to waste & environmental management and staff across the Trust. You will lead on the implementation of waste target setting, aligning these to the ambitions of the Trusts Green Plan, NHS Clinical Waste Strategy, HTM07-01, the Waste Management Policy and the National NHS Delivering a Net Zero statutory guidance. Completion of a degree in a related field, or working towards degree level qualification or equivalent in relevant field supplemented with relevant experience is essential as well as adequate experience in the waste.
