We have an Excellent Preceptorship programme to help new recruits not just to get to know the department but also get to know the area where the hospital is based. IV cannulation and Red Dot courses will be encouraged as standard for this post
Opportunities for CPD are very well supported at The Royal Surrey. We have an established radiographer led CT colonography service and have 9 qualified reporting advanced practitioners as well as a Radiographer Clinical Lead for AI. We have a number of our radiographers on advanced practice pathways including ultrasound and mammography interventional and film reading courses with some also working towards being a consultant radiographers.
Our Radiology department is made up of 8 X-ray rooms, 5 CT scanners, 3 MRI scanners, 10 Ultrasound machines, an IR suite and 8 theatre machines. As well as 2 mammography machines and two OPG machines, one of which has CBCT capabilities. This year, we are working on our Interventional strategy which will hopefully see us moving from 1 to 3 interventional suites in the next 5-10 years and restructure the whole department to improve the experience and service we can provide to our patients
Main duties of the job
Our Band 6 rotation includes all general areas, theatres, maxillo - facial and fluoroscopy. There may also be opportunities to rotate through Mammography and the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Your rotation also has the benefit of extending out to our community sites based in:o Haslemere - Haslemere is a quaint and charming market town located in the South of Surrey. The hospital houses one X - ray room and one Ultrasound room with a busy Urgent Treatment Centre. We are also looking at adding an additional ultrasound room out here and considering options for the best use of additional spaceo Milford - Based in the quiet village, Milford Hospital is now home to our brand new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre, housing 2 MRI scanners and a CT scanner. Additionally we have one X- ray room and two Ultrasound rooms.o Cranleigh - Situated at the foot of Surrey Hills, Cranleigh is a picturesque and vibrant village and home to Cranleigh Village Hospital. We have one X - ray room and one Ultrasound room here. With the help of the League of Friend Charity, Cranleigh will be receiving a refurbishment in 2026 which will include the installation of a brand new DEXA service.

Job description Job responsibilities
To provide a high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic imaging service across a range of imaging modalities as part of a rotational programme. The post holder will be responsible for performing a wide variety of radiographic examinations, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient imaging services in accordance with departmental, professional and national standards.
The Senior Radiographer will utilise advanced clinical knowledge and professional judgement to produce high-quality diagnostic images, supervise and support junior staff and students, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the imaging service. The post holder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure excellent patient care and an optimal patient experience.
As a senior member of the team, the post holder will participate in the day-to-day organisation of clinical areas, support service development initiatives, maintain high standards of radiation protection and governance, and contribute to staff training and education.
The post holder will be required to participate in the department's out-of-hours service, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and on-call duties as required, ensuring the provision of a responsive and effective imaging service to support emergency, inpatient and urgent care pathways.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent recognised qualification Registration with HCPC as a Radiographer Evidence of CPD relevant to the role.
Desirable
Experience of teaching and mentoring students/junior staff
Knowledge Essential
Significant post registration experience within a diagnostic radiography department Experience of undertaking a broad range of general radiographic examinations Ability to work independently and prioritise workload in a busy clinical environment Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic radiography techniques and imaging protocols Sound understanding of radiation protection legislation, including the principles of IR(ME)R and IRR Knowledge of patient centered care principles and safeguarding responsibilities Understanding of quality assurance, clinical governance and risk management processes.

Previous experience working out of hours. CT scanning experience Awareness of current developments and emerging technologies within diagnostic imaging Up to date knowledge of the NHS 10 year Health plan for England
