Speech and Language Therapist
Full Time Band 5
Based in Bedford
We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 5 therapist with experience or a NQP to work with adults who have a learning disability, based in Bedford and covering the Luton and Bedfordshire area.
You will be working as part of an innovative and supportive team of speech and language therapists based within a multidisciplinary service, providing community services for adults with a learning disability.
You should be able to demonstrate an interest or experience of working with complex communication needs, challenging behaviour, AAC and an interest in developing skills of eating and drinking difficulties.
We are able to offer you a friendly and supportive team environment with regular supervision meetings, CPD meetings, multidisciplinary working, regular team meetings and an opportunity to develop your personal and clinical skills through a range of learning experiences including internal and external training, CPD, preceptorship, RCSLT competencies and CEN's.

Person Specification
Educational/Qualification Essential
Recognised SLT Degree or equivalent Health Professions Council Licence to Practice Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Experience Essential
Relevant experience of assessment and intervention in adults with learning disabilities

Experience and use of signing skills Experience of multidisciplinary working Experience of special schools/colleges/nursing homes/residential placements
Knowledge/Skills Essential
Knowledge of a range of communication assessments and appropriate therapeutic interventions for adults with learning disabilities Awareness of the principles of clinical governance/audit Negotiation and problem solving skills Standard IT skills Able to travel across Bedfordshire Able to communicate effectively with patients with communication problems where difficulties in understanding exist, using observation, listening and empathy. Able to convey complex information clearly to clients, carers and other professionals both in verbal and written form.
