About this role

0.6 (FTE). Permanent. Start September 2026.

Are you an accomplished Singing Tutor with experience of teaching at FE or HE level with a particular specialism in training students going into the professional Musical Theatre industry – and are you looking to make the next step in your career?

Are you at the cutting edge of vocal pedagogy with a flair for supporting students on their dynamic singing journeys? Are you equally at home behind a piano and able to coach students with an attention to musical detail?

Would you relish the opportunity to take a leading role in our singing provision for students on the Acting, Musical Theatre & Dance courses at one of Britain’s leading performing arts institutions?

We’re looking for an experienced Deputy Head of Singing to work alongside our established Head of Singing who has recently taken on broader managerial responsibilities within the School of Musical Theatre & Dance. You will be a lead practitioner within the school, championing quality, standards and the creative direction of the discipline within the curriculum.

It’s an impactful and varied role with responsibility for leading a large teaching team of 15 sessional tutors delivering group technical singing workshops and 1:1 singing provision across all of our courses. The post has administrative oversight over the weekly solo coaching provision (School of Musical Theatre and Dance) and the tutorial provision (School of Acting), including the recruitment and staffing of the 1:1 singing team. A key focus of the post will be ensuring that all students eligible for 1:1 singing tuition receive excellent and pedagogically sound tuition.

With over 700 students across all of our full-time courses, 450 of whom are musical theatre students that have a private 1:1 singing lesson each week, that’s no mean feat – but you will be joining a supportive and committed team. Our singing provision has gone from strength to strength in recent years and it’s something we take great pride in. We also have a Head of Music and Deputy Head of Music who will be close working colleagues, taking the lead on ensemble singing, musicianship, repertoire studies and musical direction.

An appreciation of the fact that some students’ primary study at Italia Conti may be on a Dance or Acting course is germane to success in the post. Establishing a supportive environment for performers who may not have as much experience or confidence in singing is key.

There could hardly be a more exciting time to join us at Italia Conti – in September 2022 we moved to a brand-new campus in Woking (with state of the art facilities including 16 brand new Kawai pianos!). We are a friendly and collegial team and would love to hear from you if it is a challenge that would inspire you.
