Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University is seeking to recruit an industry informed lecturer in Fashion Buying to join our School of Design Innovation at De Montfort University. Housed in a dedicated Art & Design building and with an ethos of sustainable design, we are a diverse School that incorporates undergraduate and postgraduate study with excellence in teaching, research and design consultancy.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in teaching Fashion Buying at university level. This remit is broad and will include the research and analysis of current and emerging fashion trends, fabrics and garment construction, commercial awareness and numerical skills, an understanding of buying strategies, brand objectives, merchandising, retail and ecommerce. You will be able to integrate real-world industry practices, including sourcing, negotiation, and supply chain management to contribute to an innovative curriculum.

You will demonstrate an awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and ethical issues as they relate to design, production and management in fashion and textiles. The appointed person will join an existing team of Fashion Industry specialists and teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. As a diverse School in a multicultural city, we are committed to equality of opportunity, inclusivity, and to a sense of belonging.

Experience in developing new methods of delivery and assessment that inspire diverse practice-based students would be an advantage. Research is an important part of this role and a strong desire to contribute actively to discipline-specific or pedagogic research activities that align with one or several of the university-wide themes – Net Zero, Creative and Heritage Industries, Living in a Digital Society, Lifelong Wellbeing, Peace, Equality and Social Justice is essential.

A PhD in a relevant subject area and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy would be desirable.
