Job Title: Childcare Teacher Wage/Hour Status: Hourly Reports To: Childcare Director Dept./School: Early Bird Learning Center Primary Purpose: Responsible for the management of assigned classroom. Maintain the teaching and care giving standards established by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. Qualifications: Education/Certification High school diploma or GED Must be at least 18 years of age Special Knowledge/Skills: Understand developmentally appropriate practices for the age of children in care. Ability to complete 20 clock hours of professional development training annually. Ability to complete CPR and First Aid training annually. Ability to pass a criminal history check. Shows insight into child and adult behavior. Communicates effectively and clearly with parents, staff and administrators, in both verbal and written form. Demonstrates sound judgment when planning for children's safety and health. Presents a good model to children of language use, both verbal and written. Responds to and interacts with children in their play environments and at the child's eye level. Helps children with toileting or diapering needs. May be involved in stooping, bending, lifting and walking while carrying an infant or child up to 40 pounds. Must be able to move from standing to sitting on the floor without difficulty frequently throughout the day Utilizes time well. Is organized. Accepts and respects differences in children and parents. Exhibits flexibility and a sense of humor. Understands and shows respect for confidentiality of children, parents and other staff.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Direct the day-to-day functioning of the classroom; Work with the Daycare Director to develop curriculum and daily lesson plans that are based on an assessment of each child's development and the goals of the daycare center. Develop a Portfolio System as the primary means of gathering and organizing developmental data on child's growth. Maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for the children at all times. Supervise the children at all times. Observe and monitor groups of children indoors and outdoors, assuring their health and safety. Ensure that each child receives individual attention. Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined. Maintain responsibility for the arrangement, tidiness and organization of the classroom. Delegate specific housekeeping tasks to aides and/or student workers to maintain order in the classroom. Provide supervision, encouragement, and guidance for student workers, substitute teachers, volunteers and others in the program. Maintain the teaching and care giving standards established by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. Conduct biannual parent conferences and maintain appropriate notes in each child's file. Assist the Childcare Director with planning and implementing parent programs. Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality in all classrooms in the center. Assist in other projects as assigned by the Childcare Director. Supervisory Responsibilities None Working Conditions Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions, standing, stooping, bending and lifting.
