Job Title: Registered Nurse Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Professional Reports to: Campus Principal Pay Grade: Teachers Salary Schedule Dept. /School: Assigned Campus Funding Source: 199 Local Funds Initiated Date: September 07, 2018 District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement. Department Primary Purpose: Create conditions for students to have the fullest possible educational opportunity by minimizing absences due to illness and create a climate of health and well being in district schools. Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree of Nursing or Associate Degree of Nursing
• Valid Texas license to practice as a registered nurse
Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Experience in school nursing, Preferred, or at least one or two years of experience in hospital or Home Health.
• Health procedures to be followed with experience in health education to students, families, staff, and community.
• Able to plan, organize and coordinate activities that constructively enhance the student's and districts health and well being.
• Knowledgeable about state health and immunization requirements, health programs and practices for public schools
• Knowledge of computers and data entry
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist the District Nurse Coordinator, the school committee, and the administrators in developing a comprehensive school health program.
• Supervise unlicensed personnel and provide guidance to other school staff on health related tasks.
• Participate in the work of health curriculum committee and conducts classroom presentations on health and hygiene.
• Participate in student assistance team, crises intervention, 504, ARD's etc.
• Conduct school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight, hearing, scoliosis, and ANTES screening or other as required.
• Provide monitoring and evaluations of student's health and collaborate with health care providers to obtain the appropriate treatment plans.
• Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students enrolled at the respective campus and individual student treatment records; i.e. immunizations, vision, hearing, scoliosis and ANTES.
• Oversee and assist with data entry of immunizations, screening and other health information as needed.
• Perform home visits to attend to student's health needs regarding referrals for possible assistance, and to provide guidance and health counseling when needed.
• Dispense medication to students according to district policies.
• Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and doctor's standing orders.
• Implement policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infections and contagious disease per district policy, and Texas State Department of Health Services.
• Attend workshops and in-services related to health services to improve the school district health program.
• Participate in and conducts training for district staff and community.
• Assume responsibility for professional growth for license renewal and certification requirements.
• Assist the school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools and nurse clinic.
• Attend department and staff meetings as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by campus principal or District Nurse Coordinator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy and procedures; maintain emotional control under stress, and times, may work alone. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent district wide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. POSITION WORKING DAYS: 187 Days
