About this role

Employment Term (days): 187 Primary Purpose: Assist teachers and campus staff in preparing and managing classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher or campus administrator to support student learning and promote a safe, productive classroom environment. Qualifications: Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED

• Valid Texas educational aide certificate

• Meets ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) criteria by:

• Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education; or

• Possession of an associate degree (or higher); or

• Successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work well with children

• Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Experience:

• Experience working with children preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Support

• Assist teacher/administrator in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning activities.

• Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.

• Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

• Help maintain a neat, orderly, and positive classroom environment.

• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of materials, supplies, and equipment.

• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.

• Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

• Perform other instructional support duties as assigned.

Student Management

• Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duties.

• Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher according to established classroom rules and campus policies.

• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance and enhance skills.

• Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Copier, personal computer, typewriter, audiovisual equipment, and other standard office or classroom equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

• Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

• Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

• Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

• Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; may require districtwide travel

• Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
