About this role
Primary Purpose: Provide school health services to students and staff. Qualifications: Education/Certification:
• Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
• Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing or from a state participating in the Nursing License Compact
• Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms for external and internal communications
• Strong communications, public relations and interpersonal skills
• General knowledge of computer systems and software applications
• Bilingual skills preferred
• Ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate
Experience:
• Clinical experience preferred with some school nurse experience
• Experience working with students with special needs and students in at-risk situations
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school in accordance with department policy and procedures.
• Provide direct health care, emergency first aid, and related health services to students and staff.
• Provide preventive health care by providing appraisals, screening programs, referrals and follow-up.
• Recognize, report and use control measures on communicable diseases and monitor and follow-up on immunization needs.
• Provide students, families, and staff with information on health and medical resources and assist families in accessing medical care.
• Participate in parent/student conferences as required.
• Participate in Attendance, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings as required.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect.
• Conduct physical student searches.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or senior director
