About this role
Qualifications: • Have a high school diploma or GED and shall hold or be working toward, an Associate Degree in birth-through kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or an early childhood education related field or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Teacher assistants working toward the minimum of an Associate Degree or CDA shall make progress by completing a minimum of six documented semester hours per year; or • Meet the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and have one of the following: o Six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education, or o Two years of work experience in an early childhood setting. Key Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist in planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum to address the needs of the whole child. • Work cooperatively with the teacher to provide integrated, exploratory activities and materials with a major focus on children's learning through play. • Assist in maintaining an environment with a major focus on child-initiated learning using multiple learning centers. • Help provide meaningful learning experiences in which each child can perform successfully in a pleasant atmosphere. • Maintain open communication with the teacher concerning each individual child's need and progress. • Perform duties assigned by the pre-kindergarten teacher. • Help maintain individual records and documentation for each child. • Assist in planning and implementation of parent involvement activities. • Participate in conferences and professional development pertinent to job responsibility. • Assist with screening of students for possible pre-k participation/enrollment. • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the site principal and/or supervisor
