Johnston County Public Schools Job Description POSITION: Grounds I LOCATION: Facility Services SALARY: Pay Grade 56 REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor/Foreman TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time - 12 months REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor/Foreman
JOB GOAL: To develop and maintain school grounds, athletic fields, and drainage systems in a manner that will enhance the public image of schools and the instructional environment KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES: Someone who is reliable, possesses a strong work ethic and self motivated
• 1 year of experience in landscaping maintenance preferred
• Someone who possesses a general knowledge and understanding of grounds equipment: zero turn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, etc.
• Someone who has knowledge of OSHA regulations, proper PPE protocol and safety regulations.
• Must be able to communicate efficiently and professionally with supervisor, foreman, crew leaders and all Johnston County Public Schools staff
• Someone who is capable of operating a work truck and trailer safely
• Someone who has general knowledge of preventative maintenance on equipment: Changing blades, greasing and cleaning off equipment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Cuts lawns, trim and edges grass
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth
• Removes damaged leaves, branches, or twigs
• Rakes and composts or disposes of leaves
• Cleans grounds and removes litter
• Shovels snow from walks and driveways
• Spreads salt and sand on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup
• Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
• Waters lawn, shrubs, and flowers
• Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts
• Knowledge of safety hazards, rules, regulations and implements safety precautions.
• Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to perform medium/heavy lifting exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions
• Must be able to walk far distances while operating small engine equipment on a daily basis
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must possess a valid drivers license
