LEECHBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT Coach/Extra-curriculum Advisor Job Description Title of Position: ASSISTANT BAND DIRECTOR General Purpose and Objective of the Position: Provide students enrolled in the band with an array of experience and activities of sufficient variety, intellectual rigor, and pertinence to contemporary needs as to ensure their deriving genuine educational benefit and long-time enrichment. Recommended Experiences:
• Experience conducting working with marching band and concert ensemble.
• Experience with color guard and majorette routines, techniques and show planning.
Certifications:
• Pennsylvania teaching certificate in music (Required)
• First Aid/CPR(recommended)
• All required clearances
Position Responsibilities:
• Complete required paperwork.
• Maintain certifications/Clearances
• Understand and uphold school district guidelines and policies
• Conduct practices/Rehearsals as needed
Position Expectations:
• Uphold the Student Code of Conduct.
• Understand and uphold school district guidelines and policies. This would include, but not be limited to the following:
• Use of Facilities Request
• Student Activity Club Sponsor Responsibilities
• Fundraising Request
• Drug and Alcohol, Use of Cell Phones, and Bullying Policies
• Treat all members of the team or club equally and respectfully.
• Serve as a positive role model to all members of the team or club, spectators, and peers.
• Promote safety and good sportsmanship.
• Assist with planning all marching bands shows and routines
• Assist with auditions for band placement
• Assist with after school rehearsals for marching and concert bands
• Assist with supervision of the band during all public appearances. This includes;
• 4 Parades
• 3 Band Festivals
• All Home/Away Football Games
• The Pre-Season Bonfire/Pep Rally
• Two weeks of Band Camp
• Constructively instruct members on technical skills and techniques
• Work with ancillary staff, Band Front sponsor, on teaching marching show and drill charts.
• Assist with the issuing and collection of uniforms,music and any other band equipment; keep an inventory of all supplies and equipment.
• Creates a fun learning environment that encourages development and involvement.
General Information:
• The assistant sponsor will supply the building principal with a schedule of practices. This schedule should indicate which practices/ rehearsals are mandatory and which are optional.
• Assist at a general meeting where the goals and responsibilities of being a member of the Marching and Concert Band are explained.
• Assist the sponsor with the on-site supervisors for the activity.
• This appointment is contingent upon the continuing availability of funds for this position and on satisfactory work performance.
Evaluations: Performance evaluations for the assistant sponsor will be conducted at the end of the season by the Building Principal.
