Duties and Responsibilities The School Librarian/Technology Specialist creates and maintains an environment that supports active learning, inquiry, literacy development, technology integration, and collaboration with staff and students. This role serves as an instructional partner, information specialist, technology resource, and teacher to promote student achievement and ethical use of information and technology within a bilingual and bimodal educational environment. Daily Expectations Library and Media Services Create and maintain a library environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning Work collaboratively with members of the school community to define policies of the library program and guide all related activities Ensure that library program goals and objectives align with school and district long-range strategic plans Use effective management principles, including resources and facilities, to implement program goals Prepare, justify, and administer the library program budget in support of program goals Establish and maintain procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and resource sharing to ensure appropriate resources are available Ensure equitable physical access to library facilities, including barrier-free and universally designed environments Maintain active memberships in professional library and education associations Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry-based learning experiences and assessments Participate in the implementation of collaboratively planned instruction by providing group and individual instruction Plan and support meaningful experiences that promote a love of reading and lifelong learning Provide and participate in professional development opportunities for school and district staff Provide leadership in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats Ensure equitable access to information resources and promote responsible and ethical use of information Develop and maintain a collection of resources aligned with curriculum, learner needs, and instructional strategies Model effective strategies for developing multiple literacies Organize library collections for maximum accessibility and effective use Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information Guide students in reading for understanding, exposure to diverse viewpoints and genres, and personal enjoyment Support students in using information for defined and self-defined purposes Assist students in building on prior knowledge and constructing new knowledge Support students in navigating information and media in all formats Collect and analyze data to improve instruction and demonstrate connections between the library program and student achievement Research, write, and submit persuasive grant proposals to secure library funds Technology Integration Support staff and students with instructional technology tools and digital resources. Assist with integrating technology into classroom instruction across grade levels. Provide training and support on educational technology platforms and applications. Collaborate with staff to enhance digital literacy and responsible technology use. Troubleshoot basic technology issues and coordinate with IT support as needed. STEAM Programming Develop and implement STEAM-related learning opportunities and enrichment activities. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences involving science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Support project-based learning and interdisciplinary instruction. Coordinate STEAM events, clubs, maker-space activities, or schoolwide initiatives. Encourage creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation among students.
Job Requirements Library Media Certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education Master’s Degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, or related field preferred. Experience working in educational settings with students of diverse learning needs. Knowledge of instructional technology, digital resources, and STEAM education.
