Fleming County Schools Job Description Updated February 2024 Class Code: 8003/5105 (X Duty) JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Head Athletic Coach Responsible To: Principal Basic Function: Enable each student an opportunity to learn the skills needed to effectively and safely participate in extra-curricular activities. Performance Responsibilities:
• Promote sports in the schools and community
• Plan the assigned athletic program
• Organize and supervise practices
• Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game.
• Teach the elements of good sportsmanship and self-control that displays professionalism.
• Respect the integrity and judgment of sports officials.
• Check eligibility of participants, including physicals, insurance coverage and parent consent.
• Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
• Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes.
• Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of student athletes.
• Attend all related in-service training, professional meetings, and staff development workshops.
• Develop good rapport and lines of communication with individuals and groups to include, but not limited to, players, parents, school personnel, officials, media representatives, etc.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by principal or superintendent.
Knowledge of:
• Fundamentals of various sports
• Health and safety regulations
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
Ability to:
• Assist coaches on one or more sports
• Understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: Basic knowledge of and experience with the sport to be coached Experience with coaching or work with students in extra-curricular/co-curricular teams, preferred. Terms of Employment: Salary and work year/season to be determined by the board of education. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated based on board policy and best practices.
