Position Title: Assistant Coach Status: Supplemental Contract/Work Agreement Department: High School and/or Middle School Athletics Reports To: Principal, Athletic Director, & District Superintendent FLSA Classification: Exempt Wage Determination: Board of Education Approved Date: Summary: This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork. Qualifications/Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1-3 years of experience coaching at the high school level
• Head coaching experience preferred
• Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport
• Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills
Supervisory Responsibilities: Student athletes Essential Functions:
• Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions
• Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time
• Coach and instruct players regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
• Travel with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games
• Ensure proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms and update inventories
• Maintain necessary records and completes required paperwork
• Ensure that all proper forms are obtained and current and that all student athletes are eligible, insured, and have paid fees
• Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior
• Assigns and distributes uniforms
• Enforce discipline policies and procedures
• Assist student athletes with college recruitment
General Responsibilities:
• Promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship
• Maintain a safe environment for student athletes
• Ensure all coaches work together towards a common goal within the program and provide unity
• Interact thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner
• Participate in special activities to include senior nights, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies
• Professionally represents the school and District
• Attends work regularly and is punctual
• Any other duties assigned by Principal/Athletic Director/Superintendent
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
• Have the ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Regularly required to talk or hear
• Frequently required to walk, run, jump, stretch, sit, and use hands for fine manipulation
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25lbs and occasionally up to 100lbs
• Must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation
• The work environment is a standard gymnasium/athletic event setting.
• Moderate to high noise level
