About this role

Job Description: Student and Family Support

• Explain to parents what services (DHS) are available and help them apply for services.

• Assist Families in applying for DHS services.

• Home Visits / checks

• Follow up with parents and school on student progress

• Attend IEP & school staffings at the request of the school or parent/guardian

• Mediation between parents and school

• Support homeless students

• Resource for grandparents raising their grandchildren

Support and Family Strengthening (CW)

• Connect with at-risk children and families to resolve issues prior to CW involvement

• Referrals to Child Welfare

• Resources to foster parents

• Provide school records and background family information

• Liaison between school and CW, advocating for children

• Educating school on CW and CPS

Connect Students/families to resources and services

• Referrals to counselors, doctors, dentists, DDSD, etc.

• Referrals to resources to assist with basic needs including, food security, housing, utilities, clothing, head lice, etc.

Education & Training

• Educate schools, teachers, etc. on the SBSS program and duties/responsibilities

• Provide training as to DHS services, particularly related to child safety and making referrals to Child Welfare

• Trauma-informed/Mental Health First Aid/Science of Hope

• Make Presentations to teachers to make sure they are aware of resources, occasional outside resources, bring in presenters.

Services/Enhancements based on assessment Community Engagement and Resource Development

• Service on committees and / or attend meetings of community organizations

• Build community relationships to support students and families

• Community fundraisers

• Coordinate with Indian Nations

• Coordinate with mental health associations

Behavioral and emotional support/intervention - students and families

• Incorporate the science of hope

• Behavioral prevention - bullying

• Mediation between parents and schools

• Suicide intervention and referrals

• Safe Team - bullying prevention, mental health awareness

• Build relationship with kids to build trust

• Scared straight program
