About this role
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for the facilitation of full participation and success of special education students by providing appropriate academic, physical and/or social support. RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Appropriately assist special education students with academic tasks.
• With guidance from teachers, reinforces material initially introduced by teachers.
• Assists students as needed with physical tasks, e.g., getting on/off bus, taking off/putting on outerwear, carrying lunch trays, assisting with transferring students from area to area, using the restroom, etc.
• Provides physical assistance as needed; this can include but is not limited to: lifting students, assisting with or performing catheterization procedures, changing diapers, performing transfers, e.g., from wheelchair to desk chair.
• On a frequent, routine basis, report student performance, especially changes in performance, to the special education case manager.
• As needed, become familiar with the strengths and challenges of students in order to provide appropriate support. This includes familiarization with student IEPs.
• Collect student-related data as directed.
• Perform duties as bus aide as directed by Process Coordinator or Director.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Director, Principal, or Process Coordinator
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• High school diploma or GED
• At least 60 college hours or successful completion of the Paraprofessional exam
• Previous experience working with children is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• 9 month position
• Part-time- 4 days per week- Monday-Thursday- AM only (7:45 a.m.-11:15 a.m.)
• Reports to Director of Special Education and Building Principal
• Non-exempt
