Position Overview: Sugar Creek Charter School's mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous, college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on academic preparation, college and career readiness, and life skills for success. We are seeking a mission-aligned, passionate, and dedicated High School Math 2 Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and challenging learning environment, implement rigorous and differentiated instruction, and support the academic and social-emotional growth of all students. Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Classroom Management:
• Develop and implement standards-aligned lesson plans that foster deep conceptual understanding of advanced mathematical concepts, including functions, modeling, and statistical reasoning.
• Use data-driven instruction to assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Create a structured and positive classroom culture that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and student engagement.
• Utilize differentiation strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those needing enrichment or additional support.
• Incorporate technology and real-world applications to enhance student learning.
Student Support & Engagement:
• Build strong relationships with students and set high academic and behavioral expectations.
• Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies to support student well-being.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Ensure the safety of students at all times through consistent supervision and by following and implementing the school-wide behavior plan.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
• Embrace a growth mindset by actively seeking and applying feedback to enhance instructional practices and student learning outcomes.
• Participate in planning and coaching sessions with curriculum leaders.
• Work closely with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and support staff to enhance student learning.
• Actively engage in professional development and seek opportunities for continuous growth.
• Contribute to the school community through team meetings, committees, and events.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (required).
• Valid teaching license or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina (preferred).
• Experience teaching high school mathematics, preferably at least Math 1 or other advanced math courses (preferred but not required).
• Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to high expectations for all students.
• Passion for urban education and a commitment to closing the achievement gap.
