TITLE: Specialist – Visually Impaired JOB DESCRIPTION: To work on an educational team developing, implementing, and monitoring programs favorable to learning and personal growth for visually impaired students (preschool through 8th grade) in the least restrictive environment. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Arizona Special Education Teacher certification with Visually Impaired special area

• Master Degree in special Education (preferred)

• Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned

• Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all duties and responsibilities performed by the incumbents of this class.) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct appropriate language and academic evaluations; develop, implement and monitor appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP's).

• Confer and consult with regular classroom teachers regarding student needs and progress.

• Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress.

• Participate in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) process.

• Plan, conduct and/or participate in in-service professional development activities.

• Maintain on-going communication (verbal and written) with parents of special education students.

• Direct activities of instructional assistants and/or personal assistants if applicable.

• Provide input to performance evaluation for instructional and/or personal assistants to administrators.

• May be required to participate in student's meetings which occur beyond the staff's work assignment schedule.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
