About this role

1. Provide direct care using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), and established school health protocols. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students. 2.Assess and respond to student healthcare concerns, illnesses, and injuries, communicate with parents regarding individual students, and ensure appropriate referrals, and follow up as needed. Serve as a liaison between school personnel, the family, healthcare professionals, and the community. 3.Notify parents of accident or illness. Secure emergency medical care for students as needed. 4.Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students to ensure safe integration of the student into the school environment. 5.Provide first aid and emergency care as needed. 6.Monitor students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies, and other medically complex needs. 7.Serve as health advocate for students. 8.Ensure that medications are administered to students according to district policy and procedures and physician orders. 9.Document medications administered, treatments provided, and student visits to the clinic. 10. Monitor immunization records and ensure compliance. 11. Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in compliance with FERPA, HIPPA (where applicable), and district requirements. 12. Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs, conduct the screenings, collect data, and complete required reports. 13. Report communicable diseases and health concerns according to state and local guidelines. 14. May make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary.

Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or similar nationally recognized association (to be maintained while holding the position) Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of basic nursing practices and procedures Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects Knowledge of childhood illnesses, communicable diseases, and emergency medical care Ability to administer medications/treatments according to physician orders and district protocols Ability to implement policies and procedures Knowledge of basic first aid Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills Ability to maintain accurate health records and documentation Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Effective verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, staff, healthcare providers, and community agencies Experience: 3 years nursing experience preferred Experience working with school-aged children preferred
