About this role

Primary Purpose: Maintain, prepare, and apply paint and protective coatings to interior and exterior surfaces of district buildings, facilities, and furnishings to preserve appearance, protect assets, and ensure a safe, professional learning environment. Qualifications: Minimum Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

• Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain)

Minimum Experience:

• Three (3) years of commercial, institutional, or industrial painting experience preferred.

Special Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of surface preparation methods and painting techniques.

• Ability to properly apply paints, stains, primers, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

• Ability to match and mix paint colors to existing finishes.

• Knowledge of painting materials, products, and manufacturer recommendations.

• Ability to safely work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms.

• Knowledge of proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.

• Ability to estimate labor and material requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret work orders and follow written and verbal instructions.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Inspect work sites and determine proper preparation methods, materials, and equipment.

• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming.

• Apply paint, stain, epoxy coatings, and other finishes to interior and exterior building surfaces.

• Protect adjacent surfaces and furnishings from overspray, spills, and damage.

• Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders in a timely manner.

• Estimate labor, materials, and project completion timelines.

• Maintain painting tools, spray equipment, and related machinery in safe operating condition.

• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

• Follow all district safety procedures and manufacturer's recommendations for handling, use, and disposal of materials.

• Stay current on new painting products, materials, and application techniques.

• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

EQUIPMENT USED: Paint sprayers, pressure washers, sanders, mixers, brushes, rollers, masking equipment, ladders, scaffolding, striping equipment, hand and power tools, respirators, and standard maintenance equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, and working from ladders or scaffolding. Heavy lifting over 45 pounds. Responsibilities of the position may require irregular work hours. Environment: Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, paint fumes, solvents, noise, moving machinery, elevated work areas, and other construction-related hazards. Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $24.08 Reports To: Supervisor of Carpentry Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2026
