Greenville Public School District Job Description Director of Transportation Title: Director of Transportation Qualifications: Computer skills Leadership skills Reports To: Superintendent of Education, the Deputy Superintendent, the Associate Administrator for Operations, and/or the Superintendents designee Job Goal: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation and facilities, to take advantage of the complete range or curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the district's schools Mission and Goals
• Works with the Superintendent and those whom he/she supervises to articulate and promote the school system's vision of learning and teaching
• Monitors and evaluates progress toward accomplishment of the system's goals and objectives
• Uses student data to identify program needs
• Develops goals, objectives, programs, and operations that are consistent with the school system's vision, mission, and goals
• Ensures that unit and program plans are consistent with the system's strategic plan
• Organizes daily, monthly, and yearly schedules to facilitate learning and teaching in the schools
• Communicates high expectations of students, staff, and parents/guardians
• Creates, identifies, encourages, and supports innovative ideas that in turn support learning and teaching in the schools
Management of Educational Resources
• Selects and utilizes personnel to meet the needs of the school
• Administers the finances of the district with sound fiscal management and educational practices
• Assists with the development of the budget and makes allocations to schools in an equitable manner
• Achieves maximum results for available resources and money spent
• Understands and utilizes technology effectively
General Responsibilities
• Conforms with all state laws regarding school transportation
• Trains, supervises, and recruits transportation personnel and makes recommendations on their job performance
• Schedules and supervises bus drivers' schools, trainings, driving skills, and discipline techniques
• Cooperates with school principals and others in planning activity trips
• Handles transportation reports and route schedules
• Acts as liaison with SPED and transportation drivers to provide for special needs
• Coordinates purchasing of gas and oil products and maintains appropriate records
• Coordinates purchase of buses and service vehicles
• Schedules and observes bus evacuation drills
• Acts as a liaison with parents for complaints and special requests
• Takes an active roll in solving discipline issues related to school transportation
• Develops recommendations for long-range planning needs
• Assists in maintaining inventory of all district owned equipment and vehicles
• Advises the Superintendent of hazardous road conditions and assists with "no school" decisions
• Maintains records of all responsibilities and activities
• Administers the drug testing program to fulfill federal requirements for commercial drivers' license
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) (Preferably Certified)
• Performs any other tasks as required by the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, the Associate Administrator for Operations, and the Superintendent's designee
Terms of Employment: Ten, eleven, or twelve-month year salary and work year wilt be established by the Board Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel
