Position Summary The Head Middle School Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive and educational wrestling program that promotes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. The coach will create a positive and inclusive environment that supports student-athletes both on and off the mat while aligning with the school's mission, athletic department expectations, and district policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that emphasize fundamental wrestling techniques, conditioning, and sportsmanship.
• Develop practice plans that are age-appropriate, engaging, and focused on athlete development.
• Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities.
• Foster a positive team culture built on respect, accountability, and integrity.
• Teach and reinforce good sportsmanship, character, and leadership.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes by following established safety protocols.
• Maintain communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic department staff.
• Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and encourage academic success.
• Coordinate equipment inventory, care, and distribution.
• Assist with scheduling competitions and coordinating travel as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with all school, district, conference, and state athletic association rules and regulations.
• Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development sessions, and athletic department events.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
• Previous wrestling coaching and/or competitive wrestling experience.
• Knowledge of wrestling rules, techniques, training methods, and athlete development.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and concussion certification (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
• Successful completion of all required background checks and district hiring requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience coaching middle school or high school wrestling.
• Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting.
• Demonstrated ability to build a positive and inclusive team culture.
