About this role
Position Summary Teach American Red Cross swim lessons. Qualifications, Certifications and Experience Certifications Obtainable upon Employment (Complete within 2 weeks of hire and prior to first scheduled shift; Cost of certification and time spent on the certification are covered by the employer)
• Trainings required by the Johnston Community School District
• Trainings required by Community Education
Experience
• Must be at least 16 years old
• American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR-PR preferred
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred
Performance Criteria Professional
• Teach swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities.
• Assist more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities.
• Assess the progress of students and adjusting teaching programs accordingly.
• Monitor students to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Implement ground rules for each swim session.
• Plan swimming lessons that take into account students' abilities and progressive development.
• Identify incorrect swimming techniques and correcting students accordingly.
• Keep work area clean and prepared for class.
• Attend all assigned meetings and in-services
• Perform other such duties and function as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position

General
• Work location will be assigned as needed.
• Work days/hours may vary depending upon program needs.
• Primary location is Johnston Community School District facilities and program-specific.
• Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or higher-level leadership.
• Performance evaluation conducted by direct supervisor.
