Position Title School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) Reports To Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, Campus Director, and/or Special Education Director Position Summary The School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in providing speech and language services to students with communication disorders. The SLPA works under the supervision of a licensed SLP to help students improve articulation, language, voice, fluency, and social communication skills in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Implement speech and language therapy activities developed by the supervising SLP
• Provide individual and small-group therapy sessions under SLP supervision
• Assist with screening students and documenting performance data
• Maintain accurate therapy records, progress notes, and attendance logs
• Prepare therapy materials and classroom resources
• Support students in achieving IEP goals and objectives
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff regarding student progress
• Assist with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and strategies when applicable
• Observe and report student behaviors, responses, and progress to the supervising SLP
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA and district policies
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as required
• Travel between school sites if assigned to multiple campuses
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Active Arkansas SLPA license required by start date
• School-based experience preferred but not required
• Experience working with children in educational settings preferred
• Knowledge of speech and language disorders and therapy techniques
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift therapy materials or equipment up to 25 pounds
• Ability to actively engage with students in classroom and therapy settings
Work Environment
• School-based setting including classrooms, therapy rooms, and campuses within the district
• May involve working with students with a variety of disabilities and behavioral needs
Terms of Employment
• Contract length and salary determined by district salary schedule and board approval
• Follows district calendar and applicable policies
