About this role
Primary Purpose: Facilitate the effective operation of the school administrative office and provide clerical services for the school's administrative staff. Qualifications: Education/Certification:
• High school diploma or GED certificate
• Texas Education Agency (TEA) paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute
• Proficient skills in typing, word processing, filing, and account maintenance
• Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to operate and trouble-shoot computers and other office equipment
• Ability to use the English language proficiently
• Ability to use basic mathematical operations
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions
• Ability to work within a specified behavior management system
• Ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate
• Bilingual skills preferred
• Knowledge of PowerSchool student information system preferred.
• Knowledge of Excel or access spreadsheets
• Ability to communicate effectively orally as well as written expression
Experience:
• Three years secretarial experience in a public education environment preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Organize and manage the routine work activities in the school assigned.
• Initiate and maintain administrative office functions.
• Answer telephones and interact courteously and effectively with parents, students, school personnel, and visitors.
• Assist parents, students, staff and client districts as needed.
• Maintain daily staff and student attendance records, and report information to the special schools and Business Services division and school districts in a timely manner.
• Maintain personnel time records including sick leave, vacation and special requests.
• Maintain inventory of school supplies, mailing list, -, visitor logs, and office communication.
• Schedule meetings and appointments, and maintain calendar for principal and other personnel as assigned.
• Assist principal with development and management of the campus budget.
• Assist principal in the preparation and routing of reports, memos, and other documents.
• Assist principal in maintaining accurate accounting records, payroll and student records
• Receive, store, and issue supplies and equipment.
• Sort, distribute, and/or deliver mail and other documents.
• Keep informed of and comply with state, department, and division policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
• Maintain staff and student files.
• Type campus and/or division correspondence and route as directed by the principal/designee.
• Treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Conduct physical searches as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or senior director.
