POSITION REPORTS TO: Maintenance Foreman PAY GRADE: MNT-8
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 260 days
II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE The Locksmith will install, repair and maintain locks, and security systems. Performs various carpentry related functions to ensure that the School Board premises are properly maintained. III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - High School Diploma or its equivalent. Vocational/technical school training and apprenticeship preferred. Background clearance required. Louisiana Contractor's License as a Carpenter or a passing score on the NOCTI assessment for carpenters.
• EXPERIENCE - 1-2 years of carpentry experience
• REQUIRED SKILLS - Extensive knowledge of locks, hardware, and access controls. Ability to read blueprints and building plans. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to use power tools and hand tools. Ability to follow instructions. Must have an excellent working knowledge of the tools/skills related to the field of carpentry.
• OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Physically able to install and repair locks and related hardware. Must be physically cable of lifting 20lbs at times. This position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and bending. ALOA Certified. This position is exposed to environmental extremes, chemicals, and fumes on a daily basis. This position requires the ability to perform climbing activities.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs various related administrative accountabilities including, but not limited to, determining the requirements of the job (design, time and material acquisition,) purchasing materials and setting up the job site to include interaction with principals, teachers, facility managers and contractors.
• Installs locks, hardware, and security systems in existing buildings and new construction
• Assists in the design of the scheduled carpentry projects.
• Disassembles and troubleshoots problems with locks and hardware.
• Repairs existing locks and hardware.
• Re-keys and replaces locks and hardware as needed.
• Cuts new keys and makes duplicate keys.
• Ensures security systems are working correctly.
• Cleans the job site upon the completion of the activity.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
• Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
• Actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
