Location: Newton Community School District Position: Athletic Trainer Start Date: August 2026

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor's degree or higher • Certified Athletic Trainer with a valid Iowa License or Licensed Physical Therapist with Sports Emergency Training • Candidates must also be certified in basic lifesaving with AED training. PERMORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific work elements of the job as an athletic trainer include: understanding of commonly prescribed medicines, diet, and exercises by the referring physician and physical therapists, and ensuring proper taping, bracing, strapping or fitting of athletic equipments. Reports to High School Athletic Director.

• Provide athletic training services for injury-prone home high school athletic contests and away varsity football games. • Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents. • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and activity restriction forms for sports injuries. • Assist the athletic director as requested • Provide "Athletic Training Services" to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician or physical therapist, and in accordance with State Athletic Training Practice Act.
