About this role

Block Island is a resort community located 12 miles from mainland Rhode Island and is accessible by ferry. The island has a year-round population of approximately 900, however, the summer population swells to more than 15,000. Because of the island's remote location and size, there is a close, reciprocal relationship with the community, which enhances the curriculum and the students' academic experience. The Block Island School provides services for approximately 123 students, K through 12. Currently, there is a full and part-time staff of approximately 45 and an Annual Budget of just under six million dollars. Other Administrators include a part-time K through 12 Principal, a Finance Director, a full-time Assistant Principal/Special Education Director, a Dean of Students, and a part-time Guidance Counselor. Position type: part-time (two days and one overnight)

Job requirements: • Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Rhode Island Superintendent of School Certificate. • A thorough understanding of Open Meeting Law, Access to Public Records Law, RI Department of Education Regulations, and adherence to teacher standards. • Experience with school finances and budget development, experience with collective bargaining, personnel, employee relations, and school committee/sub-committees with community members, curriculum development and data analysis. • Ability to accurately communicate with the community of parents, teachers and students, in person and through technology. Additional requirements: • A letter of recommendation from a RI Superintendent.
