About this role

Reports to: Principal General Definition of Work: To implement a library media program that is an integral part of the school division's instructional program Essential Functions:

• Acquires materials based upon students' interests, abilities, and maturity levels

• Solicits staff recommendations for materials

• Manages the media center budget to meet school needs and state standards

• Provides for the effective distribution of materials and equipment

• Arranges for the repair/replacement of media materials and equipment

• Provides for accessibility and utilization of media services

• Maintains the inventory, classification, and cataloging of materials

• Supervises the library media center staff and volunteers

• Assists teachers with curriculum implementation and instructional planning by providing resource materials, bibliographies, and guidance in the use of related technologies

• In cooperation with classroom teachers, provides assistance and instruction for individual students, classes, and groups in information gathering through the use of media and technologies

• Encourages students and teachers to use a variety of resources

• Promotes reading for pleasure and information

• Provides bibliographies and mediagraphies in curriculum content areas as requested

• Provides media center experiences that encourage students to become critical thinkers and independent learners

• Provides students with instruction in the use of the library media center and in reference skills

• Acquaints staff and students with the media collection, with new materials, and with technology

• Conducts in-service activities on the use of audio-visual equipment and instructional technology as needed

• Creates an inviting media center environment

• Complies with board and school policies

• Seeks staff development and professional growth opportunities

• Communicates with staff, students, parents, and the community in a professional manner

• Other duties as apparent or assigned

Education and Job Experience: Bachelor's Degree required. Experience in an education setting preferred. License/Endorsements: Enrollment in a program leading to a valid license to meet state requirements, with a specific endorsement in the area of library media preferred. Contract Period: Up to 10 months: $165 per day w/ Bachelor's, $195 per day w/ Licensure and endorsement in LMS FLSA Status: Temporary / Hourly Amherst County Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer
