POSITION: Academic & Restorative Center Monitor
JOB GOAL: The Academic & Restorative Center Monitor is responsible for leading a structured, supportive student intervention space that blends restorative practices with an in-school support model. This role focuses on helping students reflect on their actions, repair harm, and successfully reengage in the school community.
The monitor ensures that disciplinary moments are approached as opportunities for growth, emphasizing accountability, relationship-building, and problem solving rather than punishment.
This position plays a critical role in shifting school discipline toward a more restorative, student-centered approach- reducing repeat behaviors, strengthening relationships, and keeping students connected to learning.
SUPERVISION: Reports to the building Principal/Assistant Principal
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, and LICENSURE:
• Associate's degree or two (2) years post-secondary in education related field • Preferred: Two plus years of prior work experience
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Facilitate student reflection using restorative questioning and guided conversations • Support students in understanding the impact of their behavior and making meaningful amends • Maintain a structured environment for academic work and reflection • Supervise students assigned to the center and ensure completion of classwork • Teach and reinforce social-emotional and conflict resolution skills • Maintain documentation of student participation and outcomes
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting, and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.
