QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.
• Ability to initiate and maintain positive relations with community- based partners and organizations.
• Sesnsitivity and commitment on behalf of constituencies of the Multilingual Education Department.
• Ability to negotiate with various persons, agencies, and institutions on behalf of the Lynn Public School Department and English Learners.
• Applicant should possess the following attributes and abilities: organizational abilities, self-starter, highly motivated, ability to successfully write, edit and publish material.
• Awareness and understanding of laws and regulations regarding English Learners.
PERFORMANCE RESPONBILITIES
• Directly reports to the Exectuve Director of Multilingual Education.
• Works and communicates with the English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) with specific responsibility in areas of parent and agency outreach; attends monthly ELPAC meetings; assists in the scheduling of meetings; assists in the communication of meeting notices; coordinates special mailings through the parent group and interested agencies; maintains and develops an updated parent mailing list, and performs light typing as necessary.
• Translate/provide parent-school support as needed. (Example-meetings, phone calls, notes, and announcements).
• Support potential ELs and their families during the registration process (scheduling appointments, explaining MLE program options, etc.).
• Provide oral and written translations of communications
• Serves as a liaison between school, home and community agencies to enhance understanding and lines of communications. Assists in the expansion of parental involvement and understanding of Multilingual Education within the city. Applicant will assist in the distribution and communication of pertinent Multilingual Education information to parents.
• Support Companeros Dual Language program schools with family outreach and communication, program marketing, and enrollment.
• Performs and assumes other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and the Executive Director of Multilingual Education.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: DAYS: Twelve month position, per Lynn School Administrators' Association contract. HOURS: Regular hours: 7:45-3:45 M-TH, 7:45-2:45 Friday School Vacations and Summer Hours: 7:45-2:45 M-TH; Friday 7:45-12:45 Salary: $72,656 BENEFITS: The City of Lynn offers comprehensive and competitive health and dental benefits; Harvard Pilgrim PPO/HMO, Altus Dental High/Low, and Vision Insurance.
