Job Title: School Counselor Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Principal Dept./School: Assigned Campus Date Revised: 4/25/2023 Primary Purpose: Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at assigned campus. Counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master's degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas school counselor certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff Experience: Two years teaching experience, preferred. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Guidance
• Collaborate with stakeholders on the implementation of the guidance curriculum plan and overall campus counseling program.
• Teach guidance units regularly and effectively.
• Create and/or support campus wide projects that promote a safe school environment and character development.
Responsive Services
• Provides individual counseling, equipping families with resource information as well as referrals to outside agencies.
• Provide group counseling using accepted techniques appropriate to school counseling.
• Assists with the campus goals as outlined in the Campus Improvement Plan.
• Consults with parents and staff to provide professional support for the Section 504 and Gifted and Talented.
Individual Planning:
• Collaborates with campus and district personnel to interpret tests and other assessment results to students, parents, and school staff.
• Identify students that are struggling academically and provide support and resources.
• Plan and participate in transition activities with counselors in the feeder patterns from the elementary to middle, from the middle to high school, and high school to post-secondary options.
• Guides individuals and groups of students through the development of personalized educational planning.
• Plans and/or participates in transition activities with counselors in the feeder patterns from elementary to middle, from middle to high school, and high school to post-secondary options.
Support System:
• Outlines in writing a comprehensive counseling plan, consistent with the TEA plan and tailored to campus needs.
• Educates the school staff, parents, and community about the guidance and counseling program, campus counseling plan and counseling related topics.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of guidance and counseling activities.
• Accurately maintaining and tracking student records and cohort.
• Maintain current and appropriate documentation, including appropriate digital documentation.
College and Career Readiness:
• Provides guidance lessons for all students that include career and college options.
• Plans and executes college and career events for campus.
• Provides college guidance information for college and career.
Professionalism:
• Understands and observes ethical standards of the American School Counselor Association of the Texas Code of Ethics for Professional Educators and federal, state, and district policies/laws/regulations that pertain to education and school counseling.
• Participates in professional growth and development related to counseling and education.
• Maintains positive working relationships with other counselors, staff, school personnel and community resources.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Maintains professional work ethics (punctuality, follows campus and district guidelines, organizations of work, adherence to deadlines).
• Maintains professional records and documentation.
• Completed digital PGPs.
• Implement and oversee the campus Naviance program with fidelity.
• Provide college and career guidance information for high school students
