About this role

Position Summary

The Satellite Self-Contained Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized educational programs for students in grades 5K-2 with moderate intellectual disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The teacher creates a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic, communication, social, behavioral, and functional life skills while supporting each child's overall development. Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's preferred)

• Valid state teaching certification in Special Education

• Knowledge of early childhood development and best instructional practices

• Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on each student's strengths and needs with fidelity

• Assess students' academic, social, communication, and functional abilities using appropriate assessment tools and strategies

• Adapt curriculum, teaching strategies, and learning materials to meet individual learning needs.

• Teach foundational pre-academic skills including literacy, numeracy, communication, and daily living skills

• Support students in developing communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independent living skills.

• Use evidence-based instructional strategies such as visual supports, structured teaching, task analysis, and positive behavior support.

• Utilize assistive technology, visual schedules, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and sensory supports where appropriate.

• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate educational records and documentation.

• Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists,, and other professionals to support student development.

• Serves as primary contact for the parent.

• Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.

• Participate in professional development and school activities
