About this role

TITLE: Alternative School/In-School Detention Supervisor PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: Principal REQUIREMENTS: Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician; at least a high school diploma; evidence of the use of correct grammar and good intellectual ability; a pleasant attitude with the ability to adjust to the varied personalities of those with whom he/she works; ability to work with children; ability to work with office machines and produce a reasonable accurate and readable product; ability to follow specific instructions and the ability to meet whatever alterations to the above qualifications as the Board finds appropriate and acceptable. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise students assigned to in-school detention and the alternative school in a safe, structured, and respectful environment.

• Maintain accurate attendance records and document student arrivals, departures, and disciplinary incidents.

• Ensure students comply with school policies and behavioral expectations.

• Monitor student behavior and address minor disciplinary issues using established school procedures.

• Assist students in completing assigned academic work during detention periods.

• Communicate with teachers to obtain classroom assignments and ensure students remain current with coursework.

• Maintain a quiet and productive learning environment conducive to academic success.

• Monitor the use of electronic devices and other materials in accordance with school policies.

• Escort students to and from classes, restrooms, lunch, or other approved locations when necessary.

• Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and other staff regarding student progress and behavior.

• Observe students for signs of emotional distress or safety concerns and report them promptly to appropriate personnel.

• Assist with conflict de-escalation using approved behavior management techniques.

• Enforce safety procedures and respond appropriately during emergencies.

• Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations.

• Strong classroom management and supervision skills.

• Effective verbal and written communication.

• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

• Knowledge of adolescent behavior and positive behavior intervention strategies.

• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.

• Proficiency with basic computer applications used for attendance and documentation.

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Term contract with specified beginning and ending dates as indicated in letter of employment. Hours are as designated by superintendent. EVALUATION: Evaluation of the performance of this job will be based on a combination of self-evaluation and supervisor's evaluation according to the procedures developed for all district personnel. SALARY: Based upon the adopted salary schedule of the Dayton Board of Education.
