About this role

Hudsonville Public School is looking for a certified District Nurse to work along side our current Nurse team. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

• Currently holds an active Registered Nurse license in Michigan

• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and health conditions commonly seen in early childhood.

• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the assessment, treatment, and nursing care of children with health care needs.

• Current CPR/AED certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Promote and protect the optimal health and well-being of students.

• Assist in providing a safe and healthy environment conducive to effective learning.

• Evaluate children for chronic and acute illnesses and treat or refer as needed.

• Authorize exclusion and readmission of students with communicable diseases.

• Documentation of student visits to the health office, including their symptoms.

• Administer first aid to students who are injured and determine need for referral; ensure completion of written incident reports.

• Administer medications in compliance with state and Board of Education policy.

• Review health records of students. Input immunization records; ensure all students are compliant with immunization requirements throughout the school year.

• Collaborate with parents to obtain or develop an individual Health Care Plan for children with chronic and/or high risk medical conditions. Assist these students in achieving their highest possible functional level.

• Provide home visits, if necessary.

• Perform, or train appropriate staff to perform, medically prescribed procedures for students in accordance with standard medical practice.

• Provide education and training to teachers and other staff who have contact with children with conditions that might warrant emergency treatment. Provide applicable signage.

• Assess and make appropriate suspected child abuse/neglect referrals.

• Serve as health resource person for parents and staff.

• Assist with CPR/First Aid training for staff designated by principal.

• Provide Blue Envelope Trainings to staff at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.

• Provide health education to promote healthy lifestyles.

• Clean health room regularly to maintain a sanitary environment.

• Participate in job training and professional growth opportunities.

• Carry out additional duties as required or conditions necessitate.

• Daily attendance is an essential function of the position
