NORTH SMITHFIELD SCHOOL DEPARTMENT JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE:Instructional Assistant QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma; Associate Degree preferred.

• As of January 8, 2006, meet one of the following three requirements:

• Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education in an education-related field; OR

• Obtain an associate’s or higher degree in an education-related field; OR

• Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state (ParaPro Assessment) or local academic assessment: knowledge and ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics; or, reading, writing, and mathematics readiness. (ESEA)

• Successful completion of a RIDE-approved Teacher Assistant Training Program required.

• Demonstrate patience, tact, confidentiality and professionalism in dealing with students, parents, teachers, and the public. REPORTS TO:

• Classroom Teacher

• Building Principal/Assistant Principal RATE & WORK SCHEDULES:

• Part-time: 17.5 hours/week; one-year only PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of certified teachers, prepare for classroom activities in the implementation of instructional goals and objectives selected by supervisor.

• Work individually and with small groups of students as appropriate to reinforce and supplement concepts previously introduced by the supervisor.

• Perform duties related to classroom needs as directed and requested for preparation and delivery of instruction.

• Participate in in-service training programs as required.

• Assist with the supervision of students, as scheduled by the supervisor and/or principal/assistant principal.

• Work to maintain open lines of communication with staff, students and parents.

• Maintain ethical behavior in relation to confidentiality concerning students.

• Assist, as requested, in maintaining documentation.

• Perform all other duties related to programming as may be assigned by the supervisor and/or principal/assistant principal.

17.5 hours/week - mornings; 180 days; grant-funded, non-union position. No benefits. All applicants must apply through School Spring. Occupational Fit for Duty Physical Exam required. Hard copies of applications are not accepted unless requested.
