QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid Tennessee Registered Nurse license is required.
• Experience in public health or in child health is preferred.
• Current CPR BLS Certification
• Valid TN Driver's License
• Knowledge of Diabetes Management, Gastrostomy Tube Feedings, Tracheostomy Suctioning and Catheterizations of school age children.
• Knowledge of growth and development and health problems/conditions commonly seen among school-age children
• Knowledge of the treatment and nursing care needs of children with special health problems
• This position requires someone who is flexible in adapting to changing situations and work orders; work courteously and cooperatively with administration, staff and parents; demonstrate respect, compassion and caring for children; be confidential, work efficiently and effectively; and must be committed to documentation and safety
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Under the supervision of the Nursing Director/Principal
• Provide nursing and other health-related activities which enhance the health and wellbeing of school children
• Carries out specific nursing tasks, procedures and activities
• Maintains up-to-date individualized health records
• The primary duties for this position involve the responsibility for medical related procedures to be performed during the school day as well as medication administration for students.
• Coordinate the Telemedicine Program in the school.
• Performs other duties relevant to a school nurse position in a school clinic setting
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of procedures, reports, and activities
• Attend IEP and 504 meetings, as necessary, for those children with special health care needs to provide medical input and assist with goal development.
• Communicates to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters
• Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
• Perform medical emergency assistance when needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned
