Job Posting: Childcare Assistant Department: Childcare Center Classification: Childcare Assistants Work Year: 10 months, 194 days Supervised By: High School Principal or Designee FTE: 0.6875 (5.5 hrs/day) General Description of the Position Provide instruction, supervision, and direct care to children. Provide training, supervision and assessment for high school cadet students. This position corresponds to the "Teacher" position as outlined in the Rules for the Certification of Child Care Centers, Oregon Employment Division. Required to follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols and Early Learning Division requirements. Essential Functions
• Implement activities, lessons, and daily routines for children, including but not limited to appropriate play, academic activities, rest time, potty training, table manners, utensil use, personal hygiene and clean up.
• Implement appropriate activities and lessons based on age and development of children being supervised.
• Continually monitor and supervise children and their learning space making decisions about what the needs of the classroom are and how to address them, which may include directing student helpers.
• Support the hands-on learning of high school cadet students as they develop skills related to child development and child care.
• Training high school cadet students in duties, routines, and guidance techniques for young children within the Childcare Center, including but not limited to doing dishes, laundry, sanitizing toys, and making snacks and meals.
• Monitor and assess high school cadet students' performance and provide input for grades.
• Provide nurturing and non-judgmental care to children and their parents.
• Communicate with student and staff parents, encouraging and building self-esteem to help student parents feel safe and comfortable in the Childcare Center.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
• Work as a supportive and positive team member with everyone in the Center.
• Understand and maintain confidentiality of children and parents.
• Complete ASQ's for the Star Rating QRIS.
• Complete mandatory yearly continued education hours for the Oregon Registry.
• Maintain daily records as needed, including feedings, changing, behavior records, and incident reports.
• Provide feedback to parents on status and needs of children.
• Participate in training and meetings as directed by supervisor or designee.
• Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet minimum qualification requirements as delineated in OAR 414-300-0100, including being at least 18 years of age.
• Have completed a combination of coursework and/or experience as described in the "Teacher" definition in the Rules for the Certification of Child Care Centers.
• Ability to apply basic child care skills.
• Knowledge of problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Have or possess the ability to obtain a standard first aid card, a CPR card, and a Food Handlers Card.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with supervisors, coworkers, students, parents, and general public.
• Registration in the State of Oregon's CCD's Criminal History Registry.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Physical Requirements The position requires the physical and mental skills necessary to perform all essential functions, which may include standing, walking, sitting, driving, grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manipulation, wrist twisting, bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, and reaching above the shoulder. Environment includes both indoor and outdoor work.
• Light Work: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, or sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
• Medium Work: Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
