Position Summary Job Summary:Primary responsibility is to assist students with academic work in regular classrooms. Responsibilities: Perform under teacher's supervision and direction in all areas of school activities and instruction. He/she shall be expected to: Follow the teacher's direction in maintaining classroom structure and behavioral control. Assist the teacher in academic instruction. Assist in processing and correcting student assignments. Supervise students during teacher's planning periods, MTSS/ET, IEP meetings, or during any short term absence from the classroom during the school day. Supervise students before school, during recess, during lunch periods, and at dismissal. Administer the school rules and regulations governing student behavior. Perform any and all/other related duties assigned by the building principal. Qualifications Selected candidate will be required to have a current BCI with fingerprinting. Bachelor's degree or Para Pro certification or Associate's Degree or higher with completed coursework evidencing Reading, Writing and Math Skills. Teacher Assistant certification preferred Safety Care Training preferred At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred. Citizenship, residency or work visa required Annual Requirements:General Education Paraprofessionals shall be evaluated every two years by the school principal, or more frequently, as per Article 21 Specialized Qualifications:As required by the R. I. Department of Education and Article 7. Length of Employment: School Year Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Strong oral and written communications skills. The capability of responding simultaneously to a variety of needs for students and staff while maintaining a high degree of sensitivity to individual needs. INTERPERSONAL AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS: Ability to interact with students and staff in a professional manner. Ability to effectively handle issues utilizing a personable problem solving approach. TEAM BASED SKILLS: Capable of working collegially with all levels of administration and staff. PLANNING SKILLS: Ability to prioritize the needs and requests of students and teachers within the school setting and respond in a professional and efficient manner. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in essential compute applications as required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
