About this role
Position Description A volleyball coach instructs players at practice and during games. He or she is also responsible for designing plays and strategies for the team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Volleyball Coach
• Knows and understands the basic volleyball rule and any changes that are made throughout the season.
• Studies the skills and abilities of the players on the team and puts each player in the most suitable position.
• Recognizes and uses each player's specific talents to devise plays and playing strategies for games.
• Studies the abilities of the players on opposing teams as well as their coaches' strategies.
• Knows how many timeouts are left in each game and makes the best use of them.
• Asks the referee questions about calls on plays.
• Keeps up with the score throughout the game.
• Develops drills and practice exercises that will adequately prepare players for each game.
• Teaches players the rules of the game and how to avoid making fouls that result in penalties.
• Works with individual players to strengthen their particular skills and eliminate bad habits.
• Gives instructions to assistant coaches and uses them effectively to help build the skill level of the team.
• Looks for new players and recruits them for the team.
• Participates in fundraising events and activities when coaching.

Education and Experience
• Recommended experience playing on a volleyball team.
• Recommended past experience as a volleyball coach.
