About this role

Position: Assistant Girls Basketball Coach - Queen City High School Location: Queen City High School, Queen City, TX Reports to: Head Girls Basketball Coach / Girls Coordinator / Athletic Director Position Summary: Support the head coach in developing student-athletes' basketball skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The assistant coach will help run practices, provide individual instruction, assist with game planning and scouting, support player academic and personal development, and uphold school and district policies. Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in planning and conducting team practices emphasizing fundamentals (shooting, ball-handling, footwork, defense, rebounding), conditioning, and team concepts.

• Provide position-specific and individualized skill development; monitor player progress.

• Help develop game plans, scout opponents, prepare scouting reports, and assist with in-game coaching and adjustments.

• Lead pregame warmups, substitutions, and sideline communication as delegated by the head coach.

• Supervise players at practices, games, team events, and while traveling; enforce team rules and school policies.

• Promote academic eligibility, punctuality, and positive behavior; communicate regularly with players, parents, and school staff.

• Assist with strength & conditioning programs, offseason clinics, youth camps, and fundraising as needed.

• Use film study and available technology to evaluate performance and implement improvements.

• Ensure equipment care and maintain a safe environment; complete required certifications and district training.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; college playing or coaching experience preferred.

• Prior coaching experience at the high school or youth level preferred.

• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and player development techniques.

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with the team.

• Meet QCISD certification requirements.

• Pass required background checks per district policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience coaching girls' basketball and working with diverse age groups.

• Familiarity with film review tools and basic scouting/report preparation.

• CPR/First Aid/AED certification

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to demonstrate drills and participate in on-court instruction.

• Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors/indoors in varying conditions.

Compensation:

• Stipend/placement per QCISD teacher pay scale (commensurate with experience). Benefits per district policy.
