• Must successfully pass and maintain a clean criminal record.

• Previous coaching experience and/or experience working with secondary-aged students preferred.

• Knowledge of WIAA rules, district procedures, and interscholastic athletic programs.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and administration.

• Ability to promote positive sportsmanship, teamwork, and student leadership.

REPORTS TO: Head Coach and Athletics Director JOB GOAL: To assist the Head Coach and Athletics Director in providing a positive, safe, and competitive athletic program that promotes student growth, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, academic success, and athletic skill development. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the program.

• Provide instruction in fundamentals of the sport, skills development, conditioning, and game strategies.

• Assist with organizing and conducting team practices, tryouts, and competitions.

• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, self-discipline, and respect among student athletes.

• Encourage student participation and academic success.

• Communicate expectations, schedules, team rules, and program information to students and families.

• Assist with supervision of student athletes during practices, games, travel, tournaments, and team activities.

• Assists with maintaining accurate attendance records for practices, games, and all sport-related activities.

• Maintain compliance with WIAA regulations, league requirements, district policies, and athletic department expectations.

• Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities including CPR/First Aid and WIAA coaching requirements.

• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, locker rooms, and practice areas.

• Promote a safe environment and implement injury prevention practices.

• Ensure medical authorization forms, athletic clearances, and required participation documents are completed and maintained.

• Report injuries, discipline concerns, safety concerns, or other significant incidents to the Head Coach and/or Athletics Director promptly.

• Support off-season conditioning, camps, clinics, and summer program activities as directed.

• Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students.

• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.

• Build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

• Promote equity, inclusion, and positive behavior aligned with district expectations.

• Maintain accurate records and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletics Director, or building administration.

ABILITY TO PERFORM JOB TASKS AS FOLLOWS:

• Lift and carry athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and demonstrate athletic movements for extended periods of time.

• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Travel with student athletes for competitions and team activities.

• Meet deadlines and work under time constraints during athletic seasons.

• Maintain general good health and physical stamina appropriate for coaching responsibilities.

CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE COMPENSATION: For classified employees serving in extracurricular coaching positions, compensation shall comply with applicable wage and hour laws.

• Classified employees serving in coaching assignments must accurately record all hours worked on district-approved time sheets.

• Classified employees working extracurricular assignments shall be compensated at an hourly rate no less than the applicable Washington State minimum wage.

• Hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours in a workweek, including combined district employment and extracurricular assignments, shall be compensated at the applicable overtime rate in accordance with federal and state law, including 29 CFR 778.419.

• Maximum allowable hours for each extracurricular assignment will be determined by the business office based on the assigned stipend amount and anticipated overtime obligations.

• Employees may not exceed approved hours without prior authorization from the business office.

• The District's intent is to maintain fairness and consistency among coaching positions so compensation aligns as closely as possible with the approved stipend schedule; however, actual compensation may vary as necessary to comply with overtime laws.

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: Has authority over student athletes and student managers as assigned under the supervision of the Head Coach and Athletics Director. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contractual agreement in accordance with district policies, WIAA regulations, negotiated agreements, and administrative directives. LENGTH: Seasonal position covering the complete athletic season, including postseason participation if applicable. This assignment is for a single season only and is not subject to renewal or guarantee of reappointment for subsequent seasons. SCHEDULE: As determined by practice schedules, competitions, and assigned activities. SALARY AND BENEFITS: As determined by the Board of Directors, district supplemental schedules, negotiated agreements, and applicable wage and hour laws. EVALUATION: Completed by the Athletics Director and/or designee in collaboration with the head coach at the conclusion of the season. Adopted: 5-29-12 REV: 5/2026
