About this role

Second Shift: Monday - Friday, 1:30pm - 10:00 pm PURPOSE Perform vehicle maintenance service on school buses, trucks, and other FWCS vehicles to meet or exceed Indiana State Police and Department of Transportation regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

• Graduation from high school and two years of experience in the vehicle maintenance service of vehicles.

• Must possess knowledge of the methods, materials, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, and equipment used in the assigned field.

• Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Indiana, or obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 180 days of the date of hire.

• Paid training and assistance available for those who do not yet have a CDL.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles; service vehicles with fuel, oil, grease, water, and hydraulic fluids; ensure proper fluid levels; lubricate gearboxes; drain and refill crankcases; replace wipers, fuses and batteries; assure proper air levels of tires and fill as needed; replace and rotate tires.

• Drive a vehicle to respond to emergency road calls and perform related field work as directed.

• Will train to adjust, repair and maintain brake systems.

• Assist in the preparation of buses to meet safety requirements for school buses in the State of Indiana; perform scheduled safety checks and inspections as required.

• Work from verbal and written instructions and work orders.

• Operate and maintain a variety of equipment such as air tools, jacks, testers, lifts and various hand and power tools; utilize a computer and assigned software.

• Maintain shop and work areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.

• Perform minor bodywork as needed; install, maintain and replace flooring, upholstery, mirrors and glass.

• Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform the essential functions of this job effectively and safely, employees must meet the following physical qualifications:

• Communication Skills: Ability to speak clearly and hear effectively in various environments.

• Manual Dexterity: Adeptness in the use of hands and fingers.

• Postural Endurance: Sit or stand for prolonged periods, as the job requires.

• Flexibility: Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to perform specific duties.

• Visual Acuity: Close vision ability with the capacity to adjust focus.

• Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment.

• Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds or more.

• Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.
