Middle School Assistant Coach Reports To: Athletic Director / School PrincipalClassification: Supplemental / Coaching Stipend Position Position Summary The Middle School Assistant Coach will promote skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character while ensuring a safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate experience for all student-athletes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan and conduct effective practices that emphasize fundamentals, teamwork, and player development.
• Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach and model good sportsmanship, leadership, respect, and ethical behavior.
• Ensure compliance with district policies, school rules, and league regulations.
• Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and games.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, school staff, and administrators.
• Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, transportation, equipment, and facility use.
• Support the academic success and positive behavior of student-athletes.
• Assist with inventory, care, and return of athletic equipment and uniforms.
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development related to coaching and safety.
Qualifications
• High school diploma required; college coursework or degree preferred.
• Prior coaching experience and/or playing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of rules, strategies, and skill development appropriate for middle school students.
• Ability to work effectively with adolescents.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Completion of district-required coaching certifications and background checks.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate skills during practices and games.
• Ability to lift and move athletic equipment.
• Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends.
Work Environment
• Outdoor settings.
• Exposure to noise, crowds, and physical activity typical of athletic events.
