Long-Term Substitute – School Counselor North Haven High School Title: Long-Term Substitute – School Counselor North Haven High School Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services Supervises: N/A Work Year: August 31, 2026 – November 30, 2026
Position Description Long-term substitute position for a North Haven High School School Counselor. Work with students individually and in groups to deliver a data-driven core curriculum, group work based on need, individual student planning and course articulation, responsive counseling services, referrals and resources, crisis management, and family engagement based on the Connecticut Comprehensive School Counseling Curriculum.
Education, Qualifications and Expectations
• Degree in School Counseling (068);
• Work with students individually and in groups to deliver proactive support and lessons to help students develop resilience and navigate through high school;
• Develop strong relationships with students, families and community members;
• Support students by facilitating a detailed scope and sequence;
• Work with students on identifying career and post-secondary planning goals;
• Support students through the comprehensive post-secondary planning process;
• Support students socially and emotionally, including crisis management;
• Work with students to develop independent skills such as time management, organization, and study habits;
• Attend case conferences and department meetings with school staff;
• Facilitate all 504 meetings for students on your caseload;
• An active participant in SRBI and PPTs meetings;
• Effectively communicate and collaboratively with all stakeholders in school and the community;
• Encourage students to actively be a student and strengthen social and school behaviors; and
• Collaborate closely with pupil personnel and special education / support services staff.
