About this role
SUMMARY Maintain a clean, safe, and secure educational environment. Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms and restrooms, restocking supplies, floor care, event setup, building security, and minor repairs. The role requires physical stamina, basic mechanical skills, and passing a background check. Core Responsibilities
• Sanitation & Cleaning: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors. Disinfect and restock restrooms. Empty trash, sanitize surfaces, and clean chalkboards/whiteboards.
• Facility Maintenance: Perform minor non-technical repairs (e.g., fixing furniture, changing light bulbs) and report major maintenance needs to the head custodian or administration.
• Event & Grounds Support: Set up and arrange furniture for assemblies, meetings, or sporting events. Perform light exterior duties like sweeping walkways or picking up outdoor debris.
• Security & Safety: Secure the building by locking doors and windows. Ensure fire exits are clear and handle emergency cleanups or spills.
Key Qualifications
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, climb ladders, and frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
• Knowledge & Skills: Understanding of safe cleaning chemical usage (OSHA and MSDS guidelines), basic power tool operation, and basic inventory management.
• Background: Clean background check/fingerprint clearance is universally required by school boards and districts to work around minors.
Work Environment
• Usually requires working inside school buildings, occasionally exposed to temperature extremes during seasonal outdoor work.
• Shifts may vary; evening shifts are common to allow for deep cleaning after school hours
