High School Culinary Arts Teacher (Grades 7-12)- Part Time Reports To: High School Principal Contract: 190 Days (Teacher Contract) Position Summary Arkansas Arts Academy (AAA) seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and student-centered High School Culinary Arts Teacher to lead and expand a culinary program that prepares students for post-secondary education and careers in the hospitality and food service industries. The teacher will provide engaging, hands-on instruction in Culinary Arts I-IV and Food Safety and Nutrition while fostering technical skills, creativity, professionalism, and workplace readiness. The successful candidate will create a learning environment that emphasizes culinary excellence, food safety, teamwork, leadership, and entrepreneurship while integrating academic standards and real-world experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction ? Teach Culinary Arts I, II, III, and IV utilizing Arkansas Career & Technical Education standards. ? Teach Food Safety and Sanitation curriculum with emphasis on industry best practices and certification preparation. ? Deliver instruction utilizing an 80-minute block schedule, maximizing laboratory experiences, demonstrations, collaborative learning, and project-based instruction. ? Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate culinary techniques, nutrition, menu planning, food science, hospitality management, and customer service. ? Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. ? Integrate literacy, mathematics, technology, and career readiness skills into culinary instruction. ? Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress. Laboratory Management ? Maintain a clean, safe, and organized commercial kitchen laboratory. ? Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations. ? Instruct and enforce proper sanitation procedures, food handling, knife safety, equipment operation, and kitchen safety protocols. ? Manage inventory of food, supplies, and equipment. ? Coordinate ordering of food products and instructional materials within budget guidelines. ? Maintain equipment and report repair needs promptly. Program Development ? Assist in growing and promoting Arkansas Arts Academy's Culinary Arts program. ? Develop partnerships with local restaurants, hospitality businesses, colleges, and industry professionals. ? Coordinate guest chefs, field experiences, job shadowing opportunities, and internships when appropriate. ? Participate in curriculum review and continuous program improvement. ? Support recruitment efforts by showcasing the culinary program during enrollment events, open houses, and community outreach. ? Seek catering opportunities for our students to expand into workforce opportunities. ? Establish partnerships with food companies to help supplant program budget and enhance student learning experiences. ? Help recruit students into the culinary program by being actively involved with the high school student body. ? Establish fundraising opportunities for the culinary program to enhance students learning and enrichment. Qualifications Required ? Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Family & Consumer Sciences, Education, or related field. ? Demonstrated knowledge of culinary techniques and commercial kitchen operations. ? Strong classroom management and instructional skills. ? Ability to effectively teach students of varying ability levels. Preferred ? Industry experience in restaurants, catering, baking, hospitality, or commercial food service. ? ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification (or ability to obtain). ? Experience teaching Culinary Arts or Career & Technical Education.
