POSITION SUMMARY: To maintain an effective library/media center and perform instructional duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Kentucky Department of Education certification for library media specialist.
2. Experience and other qualifications as the superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate, select, and requisition new library materials. materials.
Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires.
Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
Arrange for inter-library loan of materials of interest or use to teachers. Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
Present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
Participate in curriculum meetings if appropriate.
Counsel with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
Arrange frequently changing, book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the library's patrons.
Prepare and administer the library budget.
Schedule and teach classes in library usage, research when requested, and conduct reading-time activities at the appropriate level.
Maintain a library schedule for students in accordance with school.
Perform related duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 197-day employee with ten days extended employment; salary determined by the adopted teacher's salary schedule of the Paducah Public Schools Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
