About this role
Primary Purpose: Help maintain a safe, orderly, and positive school environment by monitoring hallways, common areas, entrances, and other assigned locations. Assist campus administrators with enforcing school rules, supervising students, addressing minor behavior concerns, and promptly reporting safety or disciplinary issues. Qualifications: Education/Certification High school diploma or GED Valid Texas educational aide certificate preferred Must meet district requirements for employment Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to work effectively with high school students Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment during challenging situations Knowledge of basic student supervision and behavior-management practices Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and safety concerns Ability to work independently and as part of a campus team Experience Experience working with adolescents preferred Experience in a school, security, supervision, or customer-service setting preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Student Supervision and Campus Safety
• Monitor hallways, stairwells, restrooms, entrances, exits, parking areas, cafeterias, and other assigned locations before, during, and after the instructional day.
• Help ensure students report to class on time and do not remain in unauthorized areas during instructional periods.
• Check student hall passes and direct students to the appropriate classroom, office, or assigned location.
• Monitor student movement during class changes, lunch periods, arrival, dismissal, assemblies, and other campus activities.
• Maintain a visible and active presence throughout assigned areas to discourage misconduct and unsafe behavior.
• Watch for unauthorized visitors, unsecured doors, safety hazards, or suspicious activity and immediately report concerns to campus administration or district police.
• Assist with maintaining orderly student arrival and dismissal procedures, including supervision of bus loading areas and parent pick-up locations when assigned.
• Follow campus procedures for emergencies, evacuations, lockdowns, severe weather, and other safety situations.
Student Behavior and Support
• Reinforce campus expectations, the Student Code of Conduct, and administrative directives consistently and professionally.
• Redirect minor student behavior and encourage students to make appropriate choices.
• Refer repeated, serious, or unsafe student behavior to the appropriate campus administrator.
• Assist in preventing and de-escalating student conflicts using approved district procedures.
• Immediately request administrative or police assistance when a situation presents a risk of injury or cannot be safely managed.
• Treat all students fairly, respectfully, and without discrimination.
• Build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Avoid the use of physical restraint unless properly trained and authorized under district procedures and applicable law.
Communication and Documentation
• Communicate regularly with campus administrators, teachers, office staff, counselors, and district police regarding student or campus concerns.
• Report accidents, injuries, suspected bullying, harassment, threats, weapons, drugs, vaping, fighting, property damage, or other serious concerns immediately.
• Prepare accurate written statements, incident reports, or documentation when requested.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information, investigations, disciplinary matters, and personnel concerns.
• Carry and appropriately use assigned communication equipment, including a district radio, when applicable.
Campus Operations
• Assist campus staff with student identification badge procedures and visitor protocols as assigned.
• Help keep hallways, exits, and common areas clear and accessible.
• Report maintenance, custodial, security, or technology concerns that could affect campus safety.
• Assist with supervision during extracurricular activities, special events, testing, and other campus functions when assigned.
• Participate in required staff development, safety training, and campus meetings.
• Follow district policies, campus procedures, administrative regulations, and safety protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designated supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities None. Equipment Used Two-way radio, telephone, computer, copier, student information or visitor-management systems, and other standard campus equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; communicate effectively with students, employees, parents, visitors, and law-enforcement personnel; respond appropriately to student conflicts and emergency situations. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing stairs; prolonged periods of walking throughout the campus; occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds; ability to respond quickly to safety concerns or emergencies. Environmental Demands Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions; frequent contact with students and the public; possible exposure to noise, student conflict, communicable illnesses, and other conditions normally associated with a high school environment.
